Asset Lab: Advanced Digital Asset Management Solution
At AdsAdvisor, we prioritize the structuring and simplification of business processes. One of our most significant challenges has been organizing the workflow of creative teams (especially given the diverse range of licensed programs and projects that our artists and designers engage with). To address this, we developed Asset Lab, a multimedia platform designed for the efficient search, viewing, and repurposing of artistic assets.
It all starts with order
When it comes to creating games or marketing materials, we generate terabytes of data, which includes 2D/3D files, videos, audio, animations, and archives. Accessing these files typically requires a variety of software – with costly licenses. Moreover, the results of our work need to be accessible not only to our in-house team but also to external partners. Asset Lab facilitates this quick access.
Asset Lab features a user-friendly web interface that connects to your asset storage, automatically recognizing, linking, and playing a variety of popular creative file types.
Unlike traditional cloud storage solutions, Asset Lab offers a unique interface that allows users to simultaneously view the file storage structure (as a "tree" format) alongside the contents of those files, complete with filtering options. This eliminates the frustration of navigating through endless folders in search of specific files.
Currently, our web interface supports playback for 23 file extensions, including videos, images, 3D models, audio files, and documents. For PSD/PSB files, users can view and download individual layers without needing to download the entire large asset.
Additionally, for archived files, you can preview all contents online and download only the specific files you need, rather than extracting the entire archive; this functionality significantly streamlines the workflow for creative teams.
During storage integration, all creative files will be automatically organized by project, category, and file extension. This systematic approach means quick access to everything your team has built up over the years: your projects and your legacy.
This flexible structure, complete with filtration options, allows for customized searches tailored to various tasks. Users can search the entire asset library or target specific sections based on file name, tags, or even layer names within PSD files.
Furthermore, adding tags is straightforward and accessible to all users, allowing them to categorize each file or selected group according to its characteristics or style.
We've also established a seamless connection between assets and finalized commercials. When viewing a rendered layout, users can instantly navigate to the corresponding video or images where the file has been utilized.
Asset Lab also enables users to work with collections of files, which we refer to as "packs."
Packs are curated groups of files drawn from various categories and projects, designed for specific tasks or themes.
Each pack has a unique shareable link that can easily be included in the designer's specifications or sent via email to the outsourcing team. Users can create their own packs in any volume without consuming additional storage space, as the files are not physically duplicated. Alternatively, you can simply share a link from the Asset Lab address bar with colleagues to provide access to curated collections of files with selected filters.
This functionality significantly streamlines and simplifies the workflow for marketing and product teams. Searching for assets becomes rapid and efficient without the need for licenses or downloading large files ranging from 1 to 20 GB to local computers. It also enhances access to files for all employees and outsourced teams, facilitating quicker onboarding for new colleagues.
Who uses Asset Lab – and how do they integrate it into their daily workflow?
Asset Lab is designed to streamline and accelerate the creative process at various stages of content preparation.
As an example, developing advertising videos begins with a concept, and when a producer has an idea for a creative project, they can open Asset Lab to search for references — that is, similar assets, animations, or items that can be reused and reimagined. Using their findings, the creative producer crafts a storyboard, attaches relevant assets with their links, and sends the final technical specifications to the motion designer.
By centralizing asset management, motion designers and artists receive timely access to new characters, thematic elements, and the latest levels and locations for their videos. They frequently search for reusable sounds, animations, and music, making Asset Lab an invaluable resource. Once a task is completed, the performers upload their results back into Asset Lab, ensuring that all work remains accessible and up-to-date for the entire team.
Artists also turn to Asset Lab for inspiration and references. If the manager doesn't find suitable resources during the technical specification phase, the artist can proactively search for materials that can serve as the foundation for new characters or mechanics.
Asset Lab liberates teams from cumbersome and disorganized folder structures, saving valuable time while reducing licensing costs and accelerating creative production processes. With its user-friendly interface, support for a wide range of file types, and robust functionality for searching and referencing assets, Asset Lab is an indispensable tool for all employees involved in developing creatives. It also simplifies the process of sharing content with colleagues and outsourced teams, enhancing collaboration and efficiency.
